Located in Sackville Gardens just across the Rochdale canal from the world famous 'canal street'

This 1997 sculpture was designed by Warren Chapman and Jess Byrne-Daniels as a symbolic representation of Manchester's response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic,

 The design encapsulates the 'Tree of Life' and the podium of the 'Beacon of Hope' with a pathway of 3 plinths to symbolise remembrance, contemplation and celebration. Within the tiled plinth and the base of the beacon is a time capsule containing messages to loved ones affected by HIV & AIDS.

On the hand rail that surrounds the sculpture are a number of plaques that tell the story year by year of HIV, from its first discovery right up to the most recent medical breakthroughs. To log this virtual cache you will need to read these plaques because the PASSWORD is the first name of the person listed on one of the plaques as being awarded a knighthood.
